Books
Everybody always asks an English teacher about recommendations.  I like nonfiction and these days I am a big fan of well-written medical narratives.  Here are several I like.

Movies
My brother, sister, and I grew up on movies.  My sister, in fact, can quote almost every line from fabulous eighties flicks like Mannequin and Night of the Comet (as well as stuff her entire hand in her mouth, though not at the same time).  Every Christmas and Thanksgiving, at my parents' house we pull out the Die Hard series - as long as Bruce brings it, the Morrisons will line up.  Dad and I just saw the fourth installment.  As for myself, I like fictional disaster flicks, Michael Moore (Bowling for Columbine and Sicko), movies set around sports, and contemporary westerns (The Jack Bull, Silverado, and The Man from Snowy River, which is set way to the west in Australia), but I also like movies about overcoming personal/social obstacles for love and connection, something all the movies below have in common.
