I am and have always been a dog lover.  Not on the crazy, "my dog is my child" way, but I appreciate dogs' simplicity and the fact that they will love you no matter your politics, appearance, or even actions.  They live whole-heartedly and in the moment - no grudges, regrets, or despondency about the future.  I believe we humans can take a lot of lessons from our canine companions.  My dog is Spot, a Dalmatian we rescued from the Humane Society in 1998.  He is a big part of my life - we nap together, walk and hike together, and occasionally (much to Jen's displeasure) share ice cream spoons.
